On the 6th of June 1944 the largest amphibious invasion in history took place when 160,000 allied soldiers landed on the shores and fields surrounding the French coast of Normandy. It was the beginning of the battle codenamed Operation Overlord which would eventually lead to the end of the Second World War.
To commemorate this historical event there will be a moment of reflection and prayer at the War Memorial at Newchurch Parish Church at 9pm on Wed 5th June a time remembering when those brave forces left our shores to commence the attack the following day.
Wreaths will be laid by the Royal British Legion. A Wreath will also be laid on behalf of the people of Culcheth and Glazebury by the Chair of the Parish Council. All are welcome.
